Welcome to the Strengthening Your Stroke webinar series. Here you will find the webinar on the Long Axis Strokes– Freestyle and Backstroke. Also included, are a few helpful resources to help you get the most out of your programming!

Technique Resources

Freestyle (High-Elbow) Pull:
1.) Elbow stays above the wrist
2.) Middle finger entry
3.) Hip rotate towards pulling arm

Freestyle Kick:
1.) Toes are pointed
2.) Knees bend no more than 60 degrees
3.) Kick is initiated through the hip joint

Freestyle Rotation:
1.) No more than 40 degrees rotation from the surface
2.) Body rotates as one unit
3.) Rotation happens in conjunction with the pull

Backstroke Pull:
1.) Pinky Entry
2.) Elbow stays close to the body (90 degree bend) throughout the pull
3.) Hand stays close to surface throughout the pull

Backstroke Kick:
1.) Toes are pointed
2.) Knees bend no more than 60 degrees
3.) Knees do not break the surface–kick is initiated through the hip joint.

Backstroke Rotation:
1.) No more than 40 degrees rotation from the surface
2.) Body rotates as one unit
3.) Rotation happens in conjunction with the pull
